If a nation was to progress, it must invest in education for its population. A strong education system helps in empowering the nation by opening up opportunities for its citizens. Malcom Forbes says: ” Education’s purpose is to replace an empty mind with an open one.”
India has woken up to the challenge of educating its people in knowledge -driven world in the largest possible numbers. The government has taken several steps in this direction with programmes such as Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, the Right to Education Act, etc.
The Parishad has been quitely pursuing the objective of providing eduation to those are deprived of it in the region Distt. UNA , Himachal Pradesh since 2004. Looking at the large number of orphaned girls in the region who were deprived of education, so the Parishad opened a college at UNA (H.P.)
The Parishad charges no fees from the students and, in addition, provides free books, uniforms, and free stay in the hostel. The college has consistently recorded impressive results in university examinations, pass percentage averaging above 85% . The Parishad has now embarked on a project to raise the pass percentage to 90% . The college is run entirely on people’s support and donations. It does not get any grant from the Govt. of INDIA.
After the success of providing education to girls & orphaned girls, The Parishad has now embarked on a project of educating another girls college. Plans are in the drawing board to start a school initially and later upgrade it to a college. Since the Parishad operates the girls college entirely on donations, it wants to do follow a similar step with the girls school. The Parishad appeals for funds from philanthropists, industrial houses and people at large to come forward to supports the Parishad in its Objective of providing education to the largest numbers.
It is an institution which runs with people’s participation. No regular Government grants in Aid.
No regular grants in Aid are available. The college has been named after the name of Amar Shaheed Lala Jagat Narian, a freedom fighter Ex. Minister Punjab and a fearless veterans journalist of the country. He Was Editor In chief, Hind Samachar Punjab Kesari Group of Newspapers who laid down his life for National Unity, Solidarity & Communal Harmoney. He was a great exponent of girls education. Lala Jagat Narain Shanti Devi, Charitable Trust (Regd.) Jalandhar has contributed a lot and padamshri Vijay Chopra, Editor In Chief, Punjab Kesari Group of Newspapers is the chief patron of the college.
Another major philanthropists & patron was late Sh. D. N. Choudahry, Retd Director General Income Tax Govt. Of India. Contributed maximum. The philanthropist who contributed more than Rs.one Lakh from 1998 to 31st March.2015 Have listed in Annenture A.
Besides above, the college also received special support from Himachal Pradesh MP’s ( Both Lok Sabha & Rajya Sabha) & local administration, as also depicted in Annexure “B”
We started the college to provide financial support to needy girls coming from weaker section of the society, for completing their education. The girls who cannot bear the expenses required for their stay and education, our Samiti always help them through the financial support from well wishers and philanthropists.
Girls staying in hostels come under different sections of society and their expenses can be further classified as:-
Their Basic EducationTheir stay in hostelslunch and dinnerbreakfast and afternoon tiffin andOther expenses (like clothes, medical etc.A number of girls have received support from the generous donors and they could complete their education successfully.
Our sincere appeal is to kindly contribute as much possible financial support for our College. This contribution can be made by Cheque, DD in favour of Lala Jagat Narayan Himotkarsh Girls College, Overseas payment can also be done and the contributor, who contributes more than Rs.500.00 may avail the deduction U/S 80 G of the Income Tax Act for the amount donated.
This is an extra advantage of donating to Lala Jagat Narayan Himotkarsh – UNA ( H..P.) because generally the donation to the other Girls Schools or Colleges are eligible for less then 50% deduction Where As We are giving 50% deduction on all Donations under Section U/S 80G (5) (vi) (43 of 1961) of the Income Tax Act ( INDIA).
